Share

The All-Star season has been a success for three Huntington Beach Girls Softball league teams, two of which are still competing in postseason action.

After placing in the top bracket at the Amateur Softball Assn. Southern California “B” State Tournament in Lancaster from July 6-8, the league’s 12-and-Under team — known as S.W.A.G.— qualified to play at the ASA Western National tournament July 30-Aug. 5 at Salem, Ore.

The 10-and-Under team, Tsunami, finished in second place at the “B” State tournament and also qualified for its upcoming Western National tournament July 30-Aug. 5 at Spokane, Wash. The HBGS 8U Gold team, Next Level, also competed at the State tournament, where it went 3-1 in pool play.

The 8U team had won its division at the ASA Southern California “B” State Tournament June 24 at Fountain Valley.

In local tournament play throughout the season, the 10U team twice won championships, twice earned second-place finishes and once finished third. The 8U team won four of five tournaments it entered and posted a 29-2-1 record. Also turning in strong tournament runs from the league were three Silver teams. The 12U Wild Ones won three tourney titles and had one third-place finish, the 10 Knockouts won one title and finished second twice and the 8U HB Tidal Waves had one second-place finish and reached the semifinals of another tournament.

The league will host a wine tasting benefit Friday. Funds raised go toward offsetting the cost of sending the 12U and 10U teams to the Western Nationals.

The fundraiser is from 5:30 to 10 p.m. at the Waterfront Beach Resort, 21100 Pacific Coast Hwy., Huntington Beach. The cost per person is $35 presale and $30 at the door. For more information, email hbgswinefundraiser@verizon.net.
