COSTA MESA — Karlee Riggs had seven kills to help lead teh Pirates to a 25-15, 25-6, 25-13 nonconference win Wednesday.

Morgan Ling had six kills and Malayzha Dinkins added four kills for OCC (6-0). Allison Lumsden had 21 assists, while Andi Frisina had seven digs and Lindsay Romero had five digs and three aces for the Pirates.

OCC opens up Orange Empire Conference action on Friday at home against Fullerton, beginning at 6 p.m.

Vanguard 3, Westmont 2

SANTA BARBARA — The Lions overcame a 2-0 deficit and rallied for the win in the Golden State Athletic Conference opener for both teams Wednesday.

Vanguard (3-5-1, 1-0 in conference) trailed, 2-0, less than eight minutes into the game.

Bryan Ponce started the comeback with a goal just before halftime. Chris Popke provided the equalizer in the 57th minute. And, Kyle O’Brien scored the game-winner in the 64th minute.

Goalkeeper Luca Licciardi had four saves for the Lions.
