High School Roundup: Mendoza leads Estancia to win


Estancia 63, Calvary Chapel 56

COSTA MESA — Junior Josh Mendoza had 22 points for Estancia in the Orange Coast League game Wednesday at Estancia High.

Mendoza hit a trio of three-pointers for the Eagles (7-14, 2-3 in league). Levi Stillman added 12 points, and Ben Beck and Martin Harry had eight each.

Estancia plays at Laguna Beach on Friday night at 7 p.m.


Laguna Beach 52, Costa Mesa 51

COSTA MESA — Kyle Hefner and Sean Comer scored 21 points each for the Mustangs in the Orange Coast League game Wednesday.

Quinten Bell grabbed 10 rebounds for Costa Mesa (7-14, 2-3 in league).



Estancia 3, Calvary Chapel 0

COSTA MESA — Abraham Cortez scored a first-half goal, and Chris Gomez scored twice on penalty kicks in the second half of Wednesday's Orange Coast League match at Estancia.

Jorge Mendoza assisted Cortez's goal for Estancia (8-5-3, 3-2 in league). Carlos Herrera made five saves for Estancia, which is tied for second place in league with Costa Mesa, one point behind Godinez.

Estancia plays at Laguna Beach on Friday at 6:30 p.m.


Corona del Mar 3, Beckman 0

IRVINE — Senior Jack Nowak had two assists for the Sea Kings in the Pacific Coast League match Wednesday.

Senior Cameron Davis, along with juniors Max Premer and Jake Kim scored for CdM (7-5-5, 2-0-2 in league). Junior John O'Connor also had an assist. Seniors Chris Von Der Ahe, Davis Case and Reed Wolonsky and junior Daniel McCabe stood out on defense.

Junior goalies Stonor Boyse (two saves) and Hagen Truninger (two saves) combined for the shutout.



Costa Mesa 2, Laguna Beach 2

COSTA MESA — Cesar Pineda scored two goals on Wednesday, as the Mustangs remained unbeaten in Orange Coast League play at 2-0-3.

Franco Ramirez assisted on both goals.

Costa Mesa Coach Amos Hernandez said Oscar Dorantes, Alexis Herrera and Julio Sanchez each played well on defense.



Saddleback Valley Christian 1, Sage Hill 0

NEWPORT COAST — Goalie Kekai Whitford made seven saves for the Lightning in the nonleague match Wednesday.

Sage Hill is 9-5-3, 1-2-1 in league.



Woodbridge 45, Corona del Mar 28

CORONA DEL MAR — Senior Paul Nguyen (138 pounds) and junior Kaden Ebbinga (152) each earned a win by pin for the Sea Kings in the Pacific Coast League dual match.

Other winners for CdM (14-5, 2-2 in league) were senior Andrew Minkus (126), juniors Chris Croxton (113) and Adam Reines (132), and freshman Chris Camarillo (106).
