A couple of years ago, Corona del Mar High’s Peter Bush went to the Michigan-Notre Dame rivalry football game in South Bend, Ind. His older brother, Sam, was a member of the Fighting Irish.

“Going to be the only Michigan fan in the Notre Dame section,” Bush said back then.

Bush has decided to stick with Michigan.

The senior chose to be a preferred walk-on player with the Michigan football program, said Sea Kings Coach Dan O’Shea on Thursday.

O’Shea said Bush also had a preferred walk-on offer from Notre Dame.

Bush stood out at wide receiver this past season, earning All-CIF Southern Section Southwest Division and first-team All-Pacific Coast League honors.

Bush set CdM single-season records for receptions (62) and receiving touchdowns (15), to go with 915 receiving yards. He also shares the CdM single-game records for touchdowns receptions (five) and receptions (11).

Impressive numbers for someone who started at quarterback as a junior, before moving to tight end late that the season.

O’Shea said Bush plans to go out for quarterback and receiver at Michigan.

The game Bush attended a couple of years ago in South Bend was a significant one. It marked the final one scheduled between the Wolverines and Irish.

Seeing Michigan lose, 31-0, that night on Sept. 7, 2014, didn’t deter him from picking the Wolverines two years later.
