The beachfront Dory Deli restaurant in Newport Beach hosted its annual beach cleanup March 11.

More than 200 people met at lifeguard tower 22 in front of Dory Deli before getting to work clearing more than 200 pounds of trash at Blackies beach.

Laguna Bluebelt Coalition invites photos for contest

It’s not too late to enter the Laguna Bluebelt Coalition’s annual photo contest.

The marine conservation group’s contest has categories for professional and amateur photographers who capture images of oceans, beaches and wildlife above or below the surface. Local merchants are providing prizes.

Fair-housing workshop for landlords Tuesday

The Fair Housing Foundation will hold a free workshop for landlords Tuesday in Newport Beach.

Guests can learn about the rental process, credit checks and how to seek prospective tenants. The meeting also will cover fair-housing laws and the rights and responsibilities of landlords and property managers.

The public workshop runs from 10 a.m. to noon in the Corona del Mar Conference Room at Newport Beach City Hall, 100 Civic Center Drive.

Project Independence CEO honored with lifetime achievement award

Debra Marsteller, president and chief executive of Project Independence, a Costa Mesa-based nonprofit, has received the Lifetime Achievement Spotlight Award from the Regional Center of Orange County.

The center funds many Project Independence programs for adults with developmental disabilities.

Legal community donating suits for employment nonprofit’s clothing drive

The Orange County legal community is participating this month in the eighth annual Suits for a Cause clothing drive to support people seeking jobs through the nonprofit WHW, which provides unemployed and underemployed people with resources to get and keep a good job.

Sixty-nine law firms and legal businesses and organizations are donating professional suits to WHW for one of its largest clothing drives of the year. The list of participating organizations includes 14 based in Newport Beach, five based in Costa Mesa and one based in Laguna Beach.

WHW, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary, serves more than 8,000 job seekers each year throughout Orange County, according to a news release.
