Christmas comes but once a year, though at Fashion Island, the tree can be lighted twice.

The Newport Beach mall threw the switch Friday night on its elegantly dressed 90-foot fir outside Bloomingdale’s and Neiman Marcus with the traditional fanfare — performers, snow and Santa Claus.

If you missed it Friday, you can take a blanket or small lawn chair and catch the free show Saturday, when it will be repeated at 6 p.m.
