A 31-year-old man was arrested after a police pursuit that began in Fountain Valley and ended on the 5 Freeway south of San Clemente, police said.

Fountain Valley police responded to a report of a suspicious person in the 17300 block of Mount Cliffwood Circle just after 6 p.m. Saturday. The caller said a man who might be under the influence of alcohol or drugs got out of a vehicle and changed clothes before returning to the car and driving off, police said.

Officers found a car matching the caller’s description near Newhope Street and Slater Avenue and tried to pull it over, but the driver didn’t stop, police said.

Officers pursued the car through the city, and the California Highway Patrol continued the chase after the car entered the southbound 405 Freeway and continued to the 5 Freeway.

The pursuit ended near the closed San Onofre nuclear power plant after CHP officers used spike strips, which blew out three of the vehicle’s tires, and performed a PIT maneuver to stop the car, police said.

The driver was taken into custody, police said.

Anthony Williams of Anaheim was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, evading police and possession of methamphetamine and a methamphetamine pipe.

He was booked into the Theo Lacy jail in Orange without bail, according to jail records.
