Thousands of people ho-ho-hoofed it at UC Irvine on Saturday during “Run for a Claus,” a holiday-themed walk/run benefiting local charities and nonprofits.

Some participants in the fourth annual event donned seasonal costumes to compete in the main 5-kilometer race or 1-mile kids’ course.

All runners and walkers received a Santa hat and beard ahead of the races. Finishers received a medal and commemorative mug.

Awards were given to the top finishers in each race, as well as for best costumes for children and adults.

Participants and spectators were able to visit a Holiday Expo offering family entertainment and free pictures with Santa Claus.

The event benefited organizations including Toys for Tots, the Salvation Army, the Long Beach Ronald McDonald House and Kids Run the OC. Participants also could choose a charity or cause and raise funds through the online CrowdRise platform.
