SUMMARY

Fetch pet insurance has one of the most comprehensive plans available. They offer one plan type that covers both accidents and illnesses.

Our favorite thing about Fetch Pet Insurance is that your plan comes with many benefits that competitors don’t provide, like treatment for dental disease, chiropractic care, and acupuncture. They’ll even cover your boarding costs if you’re in the hospital and the cost of a reward if your pet goes missing.

To help you understand your coverage options, we did an in-depth Fetch pet insurance review. We paid close attention to the pros and cons of the standard plan and requested price quotes for both cat and dog insurance.

Fetch pet insurance exclusions

Like other companies, Fetch pet insurance has several policy exclusions. These exclusions are pretty standard and aren’t covered by the majority of competitors.

What’s not covered

  • Pre-existing conditions
  • Prescription food
  • Cosmetic procedures
  • Grooming
  • Claims more than 90 days old

We explains these coverage exclusions in a bit more detail below.

Fetch waiting periods and age restrictions

Before enrolling your pet with Fetch, it’s important to know the pet insurance waiting periods and age restrictions.

Waiting periods: This is the amount of time between your enrollment date and the date you can start using your benefits. Fetch has a 15-day waiting period for both accidents and illnesses. For example, if your enrollment date is October 2, you won’t be able to use your benefits until October 18. If your pet develops an injury or illness during the waiting period, your insurance policy won’t cover it.

Age limits: Fetch doesn’t have an upper age limit, so even if you rescue a 15-year-old animal, you can still purchase insurance coverage. There is a minimum age limit of six weeks for dogs and cats.

How much does Fetch pet insurance cost?

For a medium-sized, mixed-breed dog, Fetch charges around $35 per month for a dog insurance policy with a $5,000 annual payout limit, a $500 deductible and an 80% reimbursement level.

It costs around $19 per month to insure an American shorthair cat with the same coverage limits. This assumes that you have a 1-year-old pet and live in ZIP code 90001.

Bear in mind that several factors impact the cost of a pet insurance:

1

City of residence

The cost of living in your city has a big impact on how much you pay for common veterinary services. If vets charge more in your city than they do in other areas, you’ll pay more for insurance coverage.

2

Coverage selections

Your deductible, reimbursement level and annual coverage limit all affect the cost of your insurance. For example, you may be able to lower your monthly premium by choosing the highest deductible available and have a more affordable pet insurance.

3

Pet’s age

Like humans, pets tend to develop more illnesses as they get older, creating more risk for insurers. As a result, it costs more to insure a senior pet than it does to insure a puppy or a kitten.

4

Pet type/breed

In most cases, it costs less to insure a cat than it does to insure a dog. This is because dogs tend to have more health problems. The breed of your pet also has an effect on the cost of your insurance policy, mainly because some breeds have a higher risk of developing chronic diseases. For example, large dogs tend to develop orthopedic problems more often than small dogs.

Does Fetch offer an discounts?

Fetch offers a 10% military discount for veterans and active military members. Unlike many other providers, Fetch does not offer a multi-pet discount for enrolling two or more animals in a plan.

Fetch pet insurance reviews

On Trustpilot, 84% of Fetch pet insurance reviews are accompanied by four or five-star ratings. Fetch pet insurance FAQs

Is Fetch pet insurance good?

Yes. Fetch offers one of the most comprehensive pet insurance plans on the market. The standard plan includes telehealth veterinary services, treatment for dental illnesses and injuries, and reward money for lost pets. Many insurance companies exclude these expenses, making Fetch a real bargain for pet owners.

Can I use Fetch pet insurance at any vet?

Yes. Fetch covers bills from every vet in the United States and Canada. You don’t have to look for an in-network veterinarian or choose a vet in your neighborhood. Even if you have to go to another city for specialized care, you can use your Fetch policy to defray your costs.

How do I file a claim with Fetch?

Follow these steps to submit a claim for reimbursement:

  1. Gather your documents. Fetch requires pet owners to submit detailed medical records and finalized invoices for each vet visit. The invoice must show a balance of $0. You can’t get reimbursed for vet bills you haven’t paid yet.
  2. Log in to your account via the mobile app or your favorite web browser.
  3. Click “Claims.”
  4. Click “Submit a claim.”
  5. Fill out the claim form.
  6. Submit your completed claim.

Fetch aims to process claims within 15 days, but it may take longer if you submit an incomplete claim form or don’t provide the required documents. You’ll get your money faster if you set up direct deposit, but you can choose to get reimbursed by check if needed.

How do I cancel Fetch pet insurance?

If you want to cancel your comprehensive pet insurance policy, call (866) 467-3875 between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. EST on a weekday.
