The Laguna Art Museum, at 307 Cliff Drive, presents “One Hour/One Painting” with author and critic Peter Clothier at 1 p.m. Sunday.

The presentation is an exercise in how we view things. Participants will first be given an introduction to closed-eye meditation. Clothier will lead the process, which will alternate closed- and open-eye work as participants spend an hour seated in front of a single artwork.

The Cambridge University graduate studied at the University of Iowa and taught at USC before becoming the dean and director of Otis Art Institute and then the dean of fine and communication arts at Loyola-Marymount University.

In 1986, he switched to writing full-time. His latest work, “Mind Work: Shedding Delusions On The Path To The Creative Core,” includes a series of essays that investigates the role of self-examination in the creative process.

Admission is free to museum members and free to nonmembers with museum admission.

On Dec. 5, the museum will continue its “Conversation With …” series by hosting Newport Beach photographer Laurie Brown at 7 p.m. Admission is free and no reservations are required.

The event will begin with a presentation, and later, guests will able to interact with Brown, who recently released “Las Vegas Periphery: Views From the Edge” and will be signing copies of the book.

Brown earned the National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship in 1978 and has been named Outstanding Individual Artist of 2002 by ARTS Orange County. Her work is part of the permanent collections at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Museum of Fine Arts in Houston and Minneapolis Institute of the Arts, among others.

Her work has also been spotlighted at the Santa Barbara Museum of Art, Orange County Museum of Art, Center for Creative Photography in Tucson and Tokyo’s Sezon Museum.

Live! at the Museum showcases the Angels of Venice from 7 to 8 p.m. Dec. 12.

The trio, which includes a flutist, harpist, and soprano, marries ancient music with modern arrangements while performing 13th-century and early Renaissance tunes as well as hymns and original neoclassical compositions. In Laguna Beach, they will entertain guests with holiday music. Admission is free to museum members. Nonmembers need to pay museum admission.
