Share

A traffic stop in Costa Mesa led to a police chase to a hotel, a stash of drugs and four arrests, police said.

An officer pulled over a motorcyclist Thursday on a routine patrol check, according to the Costa Mesa Police Department. When the officer got out of his car, the man on the motorcycle took off running. The officer chased him to a nearby hotel room on Newport Boulevard, where three other people were waiting — along with a stash of methamphetamine, fentanyl, LSD and other drugs, according to police.

“We appreciate the suspect’s assistance in getting these drugs off the streets,” the Police Department said in a Facebook post.

Police arrested Michael Guton Doherty, 33, of Lake Forest — who police said was on the motorcycle — along with Nicholas Joel Mulloy, 29, of Costa Mesa, Shannon Lynn Gonzalez, 40, of Vista and Chris Alexander Mireles, 27, of Garden Grove, all on suspicion of possession of narcotics for sale, possession of a stolen motorcycle and fraud.

The Orange County district attorney’s office said Gonzalez, Doherty and Mireles also were suspected of probation violations.

Mulloy was released Tuesday with no complaint filed, according to Orange County Jail records. The others remained in custody Wednesday, according to jail records.
