Coronavirus cases up by about 200 as Orange County inches toward getting off state’s watch list

Orange County reported 216 new coronavirus cases Monday, bringing the total to 43,925, according to the Orange County Health Care Agency.

The county reported no related deaths, keeping the total at 810. An estimated 34,909 have recovered.

Hospitalized coronavirus patients numbered 414, with 132 in intensive care. The change in the three-day average hospitalized patients dropped 3.3%. The county agency also reported 29% of ICU beds and 56% of ventilators are available, and testing positivity is down to 6.8%.

The case rate is 109.7 per 100,000 people, — the only qualifier Orange County hasn’t satisfied to be removed from the state watch list. But it’s not far off from the 100 per 100,000 threshold, and if Orange County can drop below it while maintaining the other metrics, it gets closer to loosening restrictions.

Here are the latest cumulative case counts and deaths for select cities:

  • Santa Ana: 8,568 cases; 208 deaths
  • Anaheim: 7,516 cases; 188 deaths
  • Huntington Beach: 1,943 cases; 56 deaths
  • Costa Mesa: 1,433 cases; 14 deaths
  • Irvine: 1,346 cases; 12 deaths
  • Newport Beach: 954 cases; 14 deaths
  • Fountain Valley: 426 cases; eight deaths
  • Laguna Beach: 153 cases; fewer than five deaths

And here are case counts followed by deaths, by age group:

  • 0 to 17: 2,930; zero
  • 18 to 24: 6,543; three
  • 25 to 34: 9,646; 12
  • 35 to 44: 7,097; 25
  • 45 to 54: 7,196; 70
  • 55 to 64: 5,296; 105
  • 65 to 74: 2,582; 169
  • 75 to 84: 1,460; 178
  • 85 and older: 1,145; 248
