Residential fire in Newport Beach leaves 1 injured

A residential structure fire occurred at 1061 Dover Drive on March 10. The fire was put out at around 1:14 a.m. on March 11.

A nighttime residential structure fire in Newport Beach this week left one individual injured and heavy fire damage to the townhouse at 1061 Dover Drive.

Firefighters responded to a call for a fire that broke out on Dover at 11:56 p.m. on Wednesday, March 10. Officials said the fire spread through the attic area of the townhouse to adjoining units. Newport Beach fire units, with support from Costa Mesa Fire and Rescue, were able to extinguish the fire by about 1:15 a.m.

Firefighters examined the area for further hot spots and determined that the scene was left with no active fires at approximately 3:15 a.m.

Newport Beach fire units were deployed again to the same location at 5:17 a.m. to contain a second fire that broke out at the building. Crews were able to evacuate all occupants and extinguish the fire, remaining on scene until 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 11.

One man was rescued from his second-story apartment and paramedics transported the victim to a burn center for treatment.

Newport Beach Battalion Chief Nick Stocks said Friday that the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
