Laguna Beach police arrived at 240 Broadway St. at about 7:40 p.m. on Saturday in response to a report of a man allegedly hitting a woman and putting her in a headlock. Hernandez was then taken into custody for domestic battery.

The woman involved in the incident, Alejandra Ayar, 28, of Montclair ran away from officers following the altercation, according to a media release.

When officers caught up with and attempted to detain her, she resisted arrest, authorities said. In the effort to handcuff her, officers brought her to the ground, police said.

Uriel Ayar, her brother, allegedly punched an officer in the neck and hit another in the face as police were in the process of making the arrests.

“The erratic behavior of these two individuals at one of the busiest family beach areas in the city presented an imminent risk of physical injury to the public and our responding police officers,” Laguna Beach interim Police Chief Jeff Calvert said in a statement. “To ensure public safety, our officers worked together to detain and arrest these offenders quickly.”

Orange County jail records show that Uriel Ayar is being held on $20,000 bail. Hernandez also remains in custody at the Theo Lacy Facility.

Alejandra Ayar was released from the Intake Release Center after she posted bond on Monday.
