Foley said in a text message that she had a Mohs surgery, used to treat skin cancer, on her lip and is unable to talk due to stitches. She emphasized that she has not tested positive for the coronavirus and her absence is not related to COVID-19.

“I’ve had four of these surgeries in my life and it’s never been a news story,” she said in a text. “We were just worried given the surge ... I didn’t want people to speculate I was out with COVID.”

Foley added she has spent plenty of time at the beach since she was a child but wasn’t aware of the importance of sunscreen at an early age. She added she encourages new parents to protect their children from sun damage and for everyone to wear sunscreen daily.
