Laguna Beach’s goat herd, part of the city’s fuel modification program, will be returning to town next week.

The goats aid in managing invasive brush and wildfire risk in the community. The herd will be sent to Three Arch Bay upon its arrival.

The public is asked to avoid petting or coming into contact with the goats.

It’s concert time: Jazz Wednesdays with Laguna Live!

Laguna Beach Live’s Jazz Wednesday concerts are back, and the next one is coming up.

Mel Collins, a jazz and blues singer, and saxophonist Rickey Woodard will be performing at Seven-Degrees, 891 Laguna Canyon Road, on April 6 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Caltrans work planned for Laguna Canyon Road

Beginning Monday, overnight construction will be taking place on Laguna Canyon Road in Laguna Beach weekdays from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.

The project scope is expected to cover the area from Forest Avenue to about 800 feet north of the Festival of Arts parking lot. One lane will be closed in each direction during the duration of construction, which is anticipated to last approximately 30 working days.

The construction will result in the removal and replacement of damaged metal pipes and backfill a sinkhole.

Costa Mesa councilwoman hosts District 5 community walk, ride this weekend

Costa Mesa District 5 City Councilwoman Arlis Reynolds, is hosting a community walk on Saturday and a community bike ride on Sunday afternoon.

Saturday’s walk begins with a meet-and-mingle session at 7:30 a.m. at NEAT Coffee, 1922 Pomona Ave., followed at 8 a.m. by a 3.5-mile neighborhood walk on the city’s west side. In recognition of Women’s History Month, the walk will include information on women-owned businesses.

On Sunday, an 8-mile bike ride begins and ends at the Costa Mesa Historical Society, 1870 Anaheim Ave. Participants can meet up at 2 p.m. with wheels set to roll at 2:30 p.m. Those who complete each of the events will have an opportunity to win a prize.

April 9 Costa Mesa spring cleaning/donation drive for Goodwill of Orange County

Looking to clean out your house of unwanted items, while supporting a good cause? On April 9, from 10 a.m. to noon, at Costa Mesa’s Lindbergh School, people are welcome to drop off donations in the school’s parking lot.

Although large furniture and baby safety items are not being accepted, donations are welcome in the following categories: clothing and accessories, housewares, linens, small appliances, electronics, sporting goods and media, including books, DVDs and VHS tapes, CDs and vinyl records.

Vanguard University appoints new Provost, VP of Academic Affairs

After a nationwide search, Costa Mesa’s Vanguard University has announced the appointment of Dr. Ryan T. Hartwig as vice president of academic affairs and provost, effective June 22.

Hartwig currently serves as dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences and professor of communication at Colorado Christian University in Lakewood, where he developed and launched an honors program, implemented a new program review process and increased faculty diversity. Prior to that, he worked at Azusa Pacific University.

In his new role, Hartwig will serve as Vanguard’s chief academic officer, responsible for providing vision and leadership for faculty members and academic services and programs, including the school’s undergraduate and graduate programs.
