Pedestrian struck and killed while crossing the street in Huntington Beach

A car struck and killed a pedestrian who was crossing Beach Boulevard in Huntington Beach late Sunday.

The 42-year-old man who died was not in a crosswalk when he was hit at about 10:30 p.m., just south of Ellis Avenue, Huntington Beach Police said Monday in a news release.

The man, later identified as John Martinez of Huntington Beach, was taken to UCI Medical Center, where he died as a result of his injuries, Orange County Sheriff’s Sgt. Scott Steinle said.

The black Toyota Camry involved in the crash was headed north on Beach at the time, police said. The 42-year-old Hemet woman driving the car was cooperative with investigators, and they do not suspect drugs or alcohol were a factor in the collision.
