Divers go deep to clean up Newport Harbor trash

Divers went underwater in Newport Harbor on Saturday to see what they could clean up.

The scuba-certified trash collectors were organized by Help Your Harbor, a coalition of community environmental groups and volunteers who regularly hold beach and water cleanups.

Volunteers for the event got a free breakfast and lunch and a post-cleanup party at the Balboa Bay Club. Prizes were awarded for the most unusual items found in the water.
