Sailors split at TofC

Newport Harbor High took Royal High apart in the opener of the

Santa Barbara Girls Volleyball Tournament of Champions Friday, rallying

from an 0-11 deficit in the first game to post a 15-11, 15-3, 15-6

victory behind the play of Kristin McClune (16 kills), and Alyson

Jennings and Christine Woller, each with seven kills.

Mira Costa, however, put a damper on the celebrations as the Mustangs

swept the Sailors in the second round, 15-3, 15-8, 17-15, to drop Dan

Glenn's Sailors (15-6) into today's fifth-place semifinals against San

Jose St. Mary's, starting at 9 a.m. at Dos Pueblos High.

"We didn't pass very well against Mira Costa," noted Glenn. "And

they're in our (CIF Playoffs) division.
