OBITUARIES
Francis Richard Tunney Jr.
Francis Richard Tunney Jr., a Newport Beach resident and former
chief financial officer of Irvine-based Allergan Inc., died on
Wednesday in a car accident near his ranch in Idaho. He was 55.
Mr. Tunney was born and raised in Philadelphia. After completing
high school and college, he served in the U.S. Army Reserve. He
earned his law degree from Duquesne University School of Law.
Mr. Tunney began his legal career as a clerk to the Chief Justice
of American Samoa. He came to Orange County in 1985 when he became
general counsel for Allergan. Mr. Tunney also served as the company’s
corporate vice president, secretary to the board, chief ethics
officer and chief financial officer. He retired in 2001.
Mr. Tunney served on the boards of directors of the Hoag Hospital
Foundation, United Cerebral Palsy Assn. of Orange County, Ocular
Science Inc., and Association Gate. He was awarded the Jurisprudence
Award from the Anti-defamation League in 1997.
Mr. Tunney is survived by wife Doris Tunney; sons Noah and Michael
Tunney; mother Agatha Danowski Tunney; sisters Daneen Snyder and
Helene Tunney; and brother Stanley Tunney.
Services will be held at noon Thursday at Pacific View Memorial
Park in Corona del Mar. A memorial service will also be held in
Ketchum, Idaho, at a later date.
Donations, in lieu of flowers, can be sent in Mr. Tunney’s memory
to the United Cerebral Palsy Assn. of Orange County or the Hoag

Carl G. McPherson
A memorial service for 30-year Newport Beach resident Carl G.
McPherson will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, May 31, at Pacific View
Memorial Chapel, at 3500 Pacific View Drive. Mr. McPherson died
Wednesday of cancer. He was 50. Mr. McPherson is survived by wife
Nancy McKown-McPherson; stepson Aaron McKown; and brothers Pat, Jeff
and Mike McPherson.
