Shrieve hired by ‘Eaters
Stephanie Shrieve has been named associate athletic director/senior
woman administrator at UC Irvine, UCI Athletic Director Bob
Chichester said Friday.
Shrieve joins the UCI staff after serving in a similar position at
Saint Mary’s College in Moraga, Calif., the past four years. At UCI,
she will serve as member of the athletic department’s senior
management team and also will be part of the chancellor’s advisory
committee on intercollegiate athletics.
In conjunction with the director of athletics, she will provide
leadership and assistance for department staff’s compliance with
department, campus, conference, NCAA, and government rules,
regulations, and policies. Shrieve will provide administrative
supervision to several of UCI’s athletic programs and will serve as
the university’s senior woman administrator to the NCAA and Big West
Conference.
“We are very excited about Stephanie joining our staff here at
UCI,” Chichester said. “Stephanie’s experience, personality, and
professional vision will provide her with an opportunity to
successfully contribute to our athletic programs and to the UCI
community. Stephanie is highly thought of by the people with whom she
has worked. Our staff members are very much looking forward to a
chance to work with her and I know that students and others
associated with our programs will welcome the opportunity to interact
with her.”
Prior to her service at Saint Mary’s, Shrieve was the director of
athletic development, annual fund and fundraising for Olympic sports
at UC Berkeley from 1998-2000. She was an assistant women’s
volleyball coach at Cal from 1997-98.
“I am truly privileged to join such an enthusiastic team of people
in the UCI Athletic Department,” Shrieve said. “Southern California
is my home away from home, and I am looking forward to returning and
building relationships at UCI and in the Orange County community.
“As a Big West Conference alumna, I am excited to be a part of its
competitiveness, and supporting the student-athletes and coaches at
UCI to represent the conference at the highest level in Division I
athletics.”
Shrieve was a four-year competitor in volleyball at Cal State
Fullerton from 1988-91. She ranks second in the Titans’ record book
for career assists (3,388) and service aces (108) and is also in
Fullerton’s top 10 for career block assists and digs. She was the
Titans’ team captain as a junior and senior and was a Big West
Scholar-Athlete each of those years.
Shrieve, who is expected to begin her new position in early
September, replaces Petrina Long, who accepted a similar position at
UCLA in May.
