SAILING CLASSES

A decorative knot work course will be taught by Orange Coast

College’s expert rigging instructor Lindsey Philpott. The course on

this sailor’s art form will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Oct. 26 and Nov. 2 at

the college’s sailing center, 1801 West Coast Highway, Newport Beach.

An intermediate coastal navigation class will be offered by Orange

Coast College. Classes will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. every Tuesday

from Nov. 1 to Dec. 6 at the college’s sailing center, 1801 West

Coast Highway, Newport Beach. Registration is $110. Information: (949) 645-9412.

A basic cruising II class will be offered by Orange Coast College.

The three-week class will cover anchoring, steering by compass,

safety at sea, heavy weather techniques, course plotting and sail

shape and rig control. Classes will meet from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on

Nov. 19, Dec. 3 and Dec. 10 at the college’s sailing center, 1801

West Coast Highway, Newport Beach. Registration is $235. Information:

A coastal navigation certification class will be offered by Orange

Coast College. This class provides instruction on theory, practice,

and procedures for navigation and piloting and offers U.S. Sailing

certification. Classes are scheduled from 7 to 10 p.m. on Wednesdays

from Nov. 2 to Dec. 14 at the college’s sailing center, 1801 West

Coast Highway, Newport Beach. Registration is $190. Information:
