Poet in Motion

At about 10 a.m. Friday, Kathryn Poet boarded a bus for Santa Barbara.

The junior and her Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy softball teammates were headed to Dos Pueblos High, the site of the Tologs’ first CIF Southern Section playoff appearance since joining the Mission League.

Once the Tologs stepped onto the field, Poet did what she’s done all year.

She was an exemplary leader. She occupied the top of the order and added to her team-best totals in several offensive categories. And she was the athlete who continued to raise the bar, demanding more from herself and the Tologs.

Early this morning, Poet will take another journey.

This trip will take her to Cerritos College, the site of the CIF Southern Section Division IV track and field finals.

There, the pole vaulter will attempt to break her personal-best mark of 8 feet 6.

She might also find herself competing in the discus competition at Cerritos.

A week ago, Poet qualified for the CIF finals in the pole vault, but missed out on the discus finals by an inch. In case an athlete withdraws, she’ll be standing by as the first alternate.
