Local team wins crown

Laguna Beach Age Group Water Polo 10-and-Under team won all four matches it played to win its division title at the Winter Fest tournament played Saturday and Sunday.

Laguna 14, San Diego Shores 4

Laguna set the tone for a dominant tournament run by routing San Diego Shores.

Jack Dodson had the early shot hand and scored three goals, Danny Weiland scored once and goalie Trent Sadler stopped two shot attempts as Laguna closed out the first quarter with a 4-0 lead.


Matthew Payne won three of the four sprints in the match and the offensive play of Cameron Zuziak, Nolan Del Torro, Connor Hauer and Henry White also contributed to the win.

Laguna 8, Commerce 6

Matthew Payne scored his four goals over the first two quarters of play, Jack Dodson scored twice and Nolan Del Torro and Connor Hauer each once, as Laguna turned away a solid commerce team.

Aki Andersen, Danny Weiland and Reid DeGroote turned in strong defensive games.


Laguna 12, Long Beach Victory 4

Jack Dodson scored four of his match-best five goals in the opening half as Laguna rolled again.

Trent Sadler stopped several shots on goal and was fronted by the defensive protection of Henry White and Maya Clemonds.

Laguna 8, Los Alamitos 2

In the division’s title match, Laguna got off to another quick start and polished off Los Alamitos to claim first-place.

Jack Dodson scored three goals, had three assists and also stopped three shot attempts while playing goalie in the third quarter. Trent Sadler, Cameron Zuziak and Danny Weiland also scored goals.
