Five achieve All-CIF

Five members of the Laguna Beach High girls’ water polo team that earned a runner-up finish in the CIF-Southern Section playoffs, have been named to the Southern California Water Polo Coaches’ Assn. 2006-07 Division II team.

Seniors Jessica McKee and Breanna Duplisea both made the first team. Junior Erin Reid and sophomore Annika Dries were second team picks and goalie Celia Huling was a third team selection.

Junior Casey Flacks of Division II champion shared the co-Player of the Year honor with Santa Barbara senior Kelly Easterday.

Agoura defeated Laguna in the Division II final and beat Santa Barbara in a semifinal match.

“I definitely think all of our girls are deserving of all-CIF,” Laguna co-head coach Chad Beeler said. “I think that Jess most definitely should have shared the MVP award with the Agoura player. She just did a fantastic job all season. Any time she scored two goals or more in a game, we’d win. She scored something like 107 or 109 goals for us.

“Breanna is one of the very best defenders. She shut down Easterday, Villa Park’s big kids and any other big player she faced. What else could you ask from a defender? Plus, we benefited from her scoring from the outside.”
