MAILBAG: Veterans have local services, like hospital

Share

For those veterans like letter writer Peter Sherfy Millington of Murietta [“Legion Hall could serve veterans needs,” Coastline Pilot, Aug. 8], I would like to make sure that all veterans are aware that the Long Beach VA Hospital has off-site clinic facilities in Santa Ana on Bristol Street just north of the 405 Freeway and a nearly new facility in Laguna Hills to serve south Orange County just south of the 5 Freeway off La Paz Road, in a strip mall shopping center, (949) 269-0700.

Both facilities are well-staffed and encourage all veterans to use them. A phone call to the Long Beach VA hospital or to any Veterans Service Office (VSO) like the one in Santa Ana will provide all the information needed. The O.C. VSO is for all veterans or their survivors’ and can be contacted at (714) 567-5017.

Laguna Beach American Legion Post 222, like all American Legion Posts, is dedicated to serving our fellow veterans, active duty personnel and our Americanism and youth programs. We own our building, thanks to the foresight of our founding WWI veterans, who bought the land and built the facilities during the 1920s. These facilities are shared with our comrades in the local VFW Post and through a partnership with the city, have shared the facilities for a wide variety of community services from children’s dance classes to a senior center.

Thankful for special summers in Laguna

We have been lucky enough to rent in Laguna for many years. We have attended 40 Pageants of the Masters and loved every one. What a special evening under the stars, viewing excellent art and hearing beautiful music. This year’s production may be the best ever. Once we saw the “backstage tour” we appreciated the volunteer efforts in costuming, sets and makeup to a greater degree.

Our favorite beach is Shaw’s Cove and our two favorite restaurants are Sage-at-the-Coast and the Beach House. More than anything else, however, we always enjoy the friendliness of full-time residents in Laguna, a small town with real beauty and really nice people. Looking forward to many more summers here.
