The Laguna Beach Lawn Bowling Club held its annual General Membership meeting earlier this month and elected its board of directors for the new 2009-2010 term. The club’s newly elected directors, who serve two-year terms, include: Curt Barstch (president); John Laguna (vice-president); Dennis Lockwood (treasurer); Bob Schmalholtz and Bella Denes. In addition, the Club expanded its five-director board to seven and appointed Dottie Parnell and Scott Roberts (secretary) to one-year terms.

Albert Schmid, immediate past president, will hold an Ex-officio position for one year.

“I was appointed to fill the vacant secretary position last April,” said Barstch, a former promotions and marketing executive at Nissan North America who also sits on the City’s Parking Traffic & Circulation Committee. “It was then that I developed a better understanding of the many activities that take place behind the scenes at LBLBC to make it such a wonderful place to enjoy our sport and develop friendships. We are fortunate to have such a spectacular ocean venue that impresses locals, visiting clubs and particularly international competitors.”

In October, LBLBC co-hosted the annual MAP Tournament for 10 international teams. LBLBC member Charlie Herbert held off a strong U.S. field, as well as top-rated players from England, Ireland, Israel, Scotland, Canada, China, Hong Kong, and Wales to become the first U.S. man to win singles competition in this international lawn bowling tournament.
