SAN FRANCISCO — Junior guard Danny Cheek scored 11 of his 15 points in the fourth quarter, helping lead the Corona del Mar High boys’ basketball team to a 55-54 win over Montgomery of Santa Rosa in the Sand Dune Classic championship game at St. Ignatius Prep on Wednesday night.

Cheek earned the tournament MVP honor, as the Sea Kings (10-3) claimed their second tournament title this season. CdM handed Montgomery its second loss of the season.

“This gives us a lot of confidence,” said CdM Coach Ryan Schachter, whose team plays in the Battle of the Bay game at Newport Harbor on Tuesday before opening Pacific Coast League play. “If we play together, we can be really good.
