An 18-year-old Fountain Valley man, believed to be part of an Asian street gang, and an accomplice were arrested on suspicion of murder after allegedly dragging a women behind their car Saturday.
Christopher Dai-Ichi Yu, 18, along with 19-year-old Lynn Ai Quach, of Garden Grove, were arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder Saturday.
The two are also expected to be charged with enhancements for being in a criminal street gang, robbery and discharging a firearm. Both face a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Yu and Quach allegedly planned to meet with a women under the pretense of selling her drugs, while intending to rob her. The two met the victim, Tuyet Thi Huynh, 38, about 11:30 p.m. in a parking lot at Russell Paris Park in Westminster as Huynh’s boyfriend waited in a nearby car, officials said.
Huynh approached Yu, who was in the passenger seat, with cash for the drug deal, but Yu allegedly grabbed the money from her. While he was stealing the money, her purse on her arm became tangled on the car and Quach began driving away, officials said. Huynh was dragged for almost a mile before she landed on the road.
A witness stopped to help her and called the authorities.
Huynh’s boyfriend followed the car, calling 911, as Yu allegedly shot at him. An Orange County Sheriff’s deputy saw the two cars speeding and pulled them over. Police found a firearm and Huynh’s purse inside the vehicle.
Huynh was taken to the hospital but died of head trauma.
Quach and Yu were taken into custody and are expected to be arraigned April 20 at the West Justice Center in Westminster.
