The HIP District, on South Coast Highway between Anita Street and Bluebird Canyon Drive, is celebrating the end of summer with Labor Day specials and events.

•Laguna Coffee Company is honoring both the holiday and the dog days of summer by offering their Panama coffee for only $10 per pound from Sept. 4 through Sept. 6.

• Studio Arts Gallery, 1200 S. Coast Hwy., will be holding an exclusive lecture and discussion from 4 to 5 p.m. Sept. 4 with artist Susan Thacker. She will shed a new perspective on how her series, "Over and Above," was conceived and executed, and the messages she meant for the pieces to deliver. For more information, call (949) 376-1619.

•Two merchants have offers for the entire month of September. The Vintage Poster is giving 20% off all custom framing. The Blue Eyed Girl Boutique has started getting in their new fall styles, including such brands as Love and Liberty, Johnny Was, William Rast, Free People, Gypsy 05 and more. Plus, you can catch the tail end of their summer sale and enjoy up to 80% off on certain items.

•Fashion will come alive at Laguna Beach Books at 5 p.m. Sept. 18. The shop will host a book signing by famed fashion photographer and "America's Next Top Model" judge Nigel Barker. His book, "The Beauty Equation," is an examination of what beauty really is and how to find it. This is a ticketed signing, and one complimentary ticket will be given for each book purchased in person at the store, up to the start of the event.

•Laguna Nursery has a lot planned for September, from Garden Walks to a third anniversary party. The Garden Walks are led by Ruben Flores, horticulturalist and nursery owner, and start from the nursery at 10 a.m. On Sept. 11, explore the grand gardens of Victoria Beach; Sept. 19 focuses on the breathtaking views and gardens of Top of the World; and stroll the quiet streets of Harmony Hollow on Sept. 25.

•On Sept. 18, the nursery's anniversary festivities begin at the Culinary Arts Center in Laguna Canyon for a herb/culinary class, then back to the nursery for seminars that alternate every other hour starting from noon. The first is on herb and vegetable gardening for the fall, and the second is on tropical treasures that flourish in Laguna, the third on how to light your garden. The real party starts at 6 p.m. with drinks, food, music and fun! Call (949) 494-5200 for reservations as there are a limited number of tickets available for the party.

The Artist Eye Gallery will also hold a reception at First Thursday's Art Walk for plein-air artist Richard Rice from 6 to 9 p.m. Rice's award-winning paintings will be on display during the entire month of September.
