Five Crowns closing for renovations

Five Crowns announced Wednesday that it will be closing temporarily next month for a renovation project and that a new chef will be in charge of its kitchen.

The restaurant at 3801 E. Coast Hwy. in Corona Del Mar will close after dinner service March 20, and will reopen sometime in mid-April, said Susan Ballou, a publicist for Five Crowns, in a news release.

The neighboring gastropub, SideDoor, which has a separate entrance off Poppy Street, will stay open during the renovation, according to the release.

Five Crowns, modeled after an English countryside inn, will have its interior remodeled in a style retaining the building’s warmth and charm, Ballou said.

The restaurant also named Ryan O’Melveny Wilson as its new executive chef. He replaces veteran Executive Chef Dennis Brask.

“Ryan, a fourth-generation member of the Frank family, the restaurant’s owners and operators, will usher in a new chapter in the long history of North America’s most authentic replica of an English country inn,” according to the press release.
