Two checkpoints in Newport-Mesa this weekend

Share

Newport-Mesa police will conduct DUI checkpoints the next two nights, checking for drunk drivers and valid driver’s licenses.

From 9 p.m. Friday to 3 a.m. Saturday, Newport Beach police will be stationed on northbound Jamboree Road at Santa Barbara Drive, stopping cars. The location, next to the Newport Beach Police Department, was selected for its proximity to bars and restaurants.

On Saturday night, Costa Mesa police will be stationed at Newport Boulevard and 17th Street, from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. Sunday. Officers said the checkpoint serves as a reminder to the public about police enforcement and the dangers of drinking and driving.
