Man pleads not guilty to molesting 4-year-old
A Huntington Beach man pleaded not guilty Friday to charges of molesting a 4-year-old relative while babysitting.
Gordon Ray Bodkin, 45, is charged with one felony count each of unlawful sexual intercourse with a child under 10, sexual penetration with a foreign object of a child under 10 and oral copulation of a child under 10, with sentencing enhancement allegations for substantial sexual conduct with a child. He has a prior strike conviction for residential burglary in 2009.
Bodkin faces a maximum sentence of 40 years to life in state prison if convicted, according to a release from the Orange County district attorney’s office. He is being held on $1-million bail.
Bodkin’s pretrial is scheduled for Oct. 14, with a preliminary hearing Nov. 3.
Huntington Beach police arrested Bodkin on Aug. 15 after a resident called and reported seeing him walking with another adult inside an apartment complex.
According to police, Bodkin was babysitting Aug. 9 when one of the child’s parents came home from work an hour early. Police said Bodkin, who was wearing nothing but a T-shirt, grabbed his pants from the floor and fled the apartment.
