Volunteers will descend on local waterways and beaches for California Coastal Cleanup Day on Saturday.
More than 50 Orange County beaches, lakes, and waterways are slated for group cleanups between 9 a.m. and noon.
Some Newport-Mesa locations include: Crystal Cove, Upper Newport Bay, Balboa Beach near the Balboa Pier, Corona del Mar State Beach, and Vista Park/Victoria Pond in Costa Mesa.
In 2010, volunteers removed more than a million pounds of trash and recyclables from across the state.
Volunteers should visit http://www.ocparks.com/adoptapark or call (714) 566-3022 to find an event and how to participate.
