Corona del Mar’s Bahia Corinthian Yacht Club has selected a new commodore.

Karen Winnett will take the reins Sunday as the fourth female commodore in the club’s 53-year history, according to club spokesman Bill Long.

She will take over from Commodore Ted O’Connor.

“She’s a fine executive, and she’ll do a fine job,” Long said.

Winnett grew up in Long Beach and came from a yachting family. Her father, Bill Nicolai, served as the commodore of the Alamitos Bay Yacht Club in Long Beach in 1978. Winnett has been in the club since 1999 and works as an attorney for K&L Gates LLP.

She owns a 36-foot Riviera Sport Yacht, “Impetuous,” and an 18-foot Duffy named Watter Toy.
