Man’s body found in truck in Laguna Niguel

LAGUNA NIGUEL — Orange County Sheriff’s investigators have detained a man seen near the spot where a man’s dead body was found inside a pickup truck parked in a Laguna Niguel neighborhood.

Deputies responded to a report of the man found dead in the vehicle about 1:40 p.m. Monday in the 27000 block of Avenida Armijo. They found the man inside a white Dodge Ram pickup.

Residents of the neighborhood said the 35-year-old man lived in a home across the street from the spot he was found dead.

Sheriff’s officials said a witness saw a white man in his 40s or 50s walking away from the truck. Detectives found that man before 4 p.m. sitting outside a nearby pharmacy.

“A witness did describe a person of interest seen leaving the area,” said Sheriff’s spokesman Jim Amormino. “That person of interest has been detained. He was detained near a CVS pharmacy at the intersection of La Paz and Pacific Park. He is being questioned.”

Amormino did not call the “person of interest” a suspect. He also said the county coroner is helping detectives investigate what is now described as a “death investigation.”
