Golfers managed to escape the rain and raise more than $100,000 for youth sports, according to charity tournament organizers.

Costa Mesa United raised more than $140,000 in initial estimates at its seventh annual Mesa Verde Charity Golf Classic & Awards Banquet on Monday at the Mesa Verde Country Club, 3000 Country Club Road, board member Steve Mensinger wrote in an email.

The sold-out event, themed “Golf Through the Ages,” brought out 144 golfers and 237 community members for the gourmet dinner.

The event also featured a putting contest, silent and live auctions, and an awards ceremony.

Costa Mesa United has donated more than $500,000 to youth sports since its inception in 1991, and was a force in getting Measure F passed, which funded the Jim Scott Stadium at Estancia High School and an Olympic-size pool at Costa Mesa High School.
