Bicyclist injured in collision with SUV

A 76-year-old man sustained serious injuries after his bicycle collided with an SUV on the late morning of Jan. 12 in Huntington Beach.

Police responded to the scene of the accident on Heil Avenue, west of Goldenwest Street, about 11:40 a.m. and found that a brown 2006 Ford Explorer had collided with the bike, according to a news release issued by the city Police Department.

Both the cyclist and driver are Huntington Beach residents and appeared to have been going west on Heil at the time of the collision.

The injured man was transferred to UC Irvine Medical Center in Orange.

As of Wednesday, he remained in serious condition but is expected to survive, said Capt. Russell Reinhart.

The SUV driver, an 81-year-old man, was not injured and cooperated with the investigation.

Police are seeking the public’s assistance with the ongoing investigation. Anyone who saw the collision and has additional information is asked to contact Officer Fulton at (714) 536-5670.
