John R. Amies

John R. Amies passed away peacefully on January 29, 2012 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in York, PA on May 31, 1926. He graduated from the University of Iowa while concurrently serving in the Navy. He married his childhood sweetheart, Mary Reeser, in 1950 and they moved to California. John was recruited by North American Aviation (Rockwell) in Downey. In 1965 he transferred to the Anaheim division of Rockwell where he worked until he retired. They raised their family in the community of Bayshores and lived there for 45 years.

John enjoyed ocean racing as a member of BCYC, and was a member of the Harbor Soaring Society winning many competitions with planes he made by hand. He and Mary had great times as members of the Newport Harbor Lawn Bowling Club. They also enjoyed many years of cruising in the Bahamas and to Catalina.

John is predeceased by his wife Mary and is survived by his daughters Terry (Marshall) Duffield, Cindy (Richard) Stoneman, Julie (Jonas) Yang, his son Grif Amies and nine grandchildren, Kelly(Chase) Rief, Tyler and Travis Duffield, Nathan and Steven Stoneman, Avery and Griffith Amies and Morgan and Hannah Yang.
