The Orange County coroner’s office has identified a transient who hanged himself in a Costa Mesa park.
Robert Fagan, 28, committed suicide at Talbert Nature Preserve on Feb. 18, according to Supervising Deputy Coroner Larry Esslinger.
Costa Mesa Police and Fire department personnel arrived at the park about 7:50 p.m. Feb. 18 to a call of a man who hanged himself from a tree using a T-shirt, according to Costa Mesa police.
Authorities initially had difficulty locating the man because of low light and dense brush, but eventually crossed a creek to an encampment area south of Victoria Street, where they found the man’s body, police said.
Officers tried to revive him for 10 minutes before carrying him out to a clearing where fire personnel tried unsuccessfully to revive him, police said.
He was declared dead at the scene.
