Newport Beach passed a number of amendments to the city charter in 2010, but officials are ready to amend some more.

Mayor Nancy Gardner and Councilmen Mike Henn and Steve Rosansky will be in charge of reviewing applications to serve on a Charter Update Commission, provided the council approves the plan Tuesday.

Applications will be due by 10 a.m. May 21; the appointments will be made the following day.

The areas the commission will review include council compensation, time and place of council meetings, illegal contracts, conflicting elective offices and more.

These include the Board of Library Trustees (one seat), Building and Fire Board of Appeals (two seats), City Arts Commission (two seats), Civil Service Board (two seats), Harbor Commission (one seat), Parks, Beaches and Recreation Commission (one seat), and Planning Commission (one seat).
