Woman claims she was slapped while eating cupcake in car

A woman said she was just trying to enjoy a cupcake in her car when someone who worked at a store nearby slapped her, according to Laguna Beach police.

Officers responded to a call alleging battery in the 300 block of Broadway at about 1 p.m. Aug. 21, Sgt. Louise Callus said in an email.

The woman told police she had come to buy a cupcake from Casey’s Cupcakes. When she was parking she discovered that a car had parked in a way that required her to go into the space next to her, which caused her to take up two parking spaces, Callus said.

After buying the cupcake, she said she came out and ate it inside her car. The car next to her, which was improperly parked was gone by then, according to the woman’s report.

An employee nearby then discovered that a customer was circling the lot for a parking space, the woman told police.

With a dog in tow, the employee came outside and told her to “get the (expletive) of here,” and was screaming, the woman reported.

She said the screaming caused the dog to jump on to her driver’s-side window. The woman said she was slapped on the arm by the employee during the altercation.

The women had conflicting accounts, so officers did not arrest anyone at the scene, Callus said.

Police will send the report to the Orange County district attorney’s office for review and a possible criminal filing for battery, Callus said.
