Dodgeball tourney raises more than $9K

Share

Dodgeball was in high demand last month at Laguna Beach High School when it hosted the third annual SchoolPower’s Dodgeball Tournament, its largest to date.

The tournament raised more than $9,000 for Laguna Beach schools through business sponsorships and registration fees.

More than 400 competitors competed on 52 different teams — six more than expected — in the three-division tournament. The junior division sold out within the first 24 hours of open registration. The event was chaired by Mike and Frana Sadler and Elaine Brashier.

There were plenty of winners. The champions of each division and the best-dressed teams from each group took home a specialized trophy.

“This year’s tournament was the best one yet, and that’s saying something,” SchoolPower President Samantha Washer said. “Who would have thought that blasting your friends and neighbors would be so successful in helping us celebrate our community and our amazing schools?”
