City seeks help for Snoopy House display

Share

Once again, Costa Mesa City Hall will play host this December to the 46th annual Snoopy House holiday display.

City officials are asking for volunteers to help with the “Peanuts”-themed decorations that for 44 years were the Christmastime fixtures of Jim Jordan’s Eastside home at 2269 Santa Ana Ave.

Foreclosure of the home last year, however, brought about an uncertain future for the popular display until Jordan and city CEO Tom Hatch struck a deal to bring everything to a larger venue: 77 Fair Drive.

The Snoopy House display will be up from 5 to 9 p.m. Dec. 14 through 25, with Santa and photo-ops present at all but the last two days.

Volunteers are needed on the following dates: 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 30 and Dec. 1, and noon to 4 p.m. Dec. 2 to move, set up and assemble the displays; 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 6 through 9 to help paint, trim and do other maintenance work; and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 26 through 29 to disassemble and move the pieces.

Volunteers are also needed to work the community booth each display night and do musical or theatrical acts. Interested performers can contact Public Affairs Manager Dan Joyce at dan.joyce@costamesaca.gov with the type of performance offered, links or samples of the work, and available dates.

Those interested may also donate supplies, or money that will be used to buy supplies, including 12 rolls of LED light strands in C7 or C9 lamp size, with rolls that are about 65 feet long; 50 sleeves of tinsel garland in mixed colors; 10 wreaths in 12- or 24-inch sizes; a dozen Santa hats; 12 cans of black and 12 cans of white spray paint; Epson Artisan 725 printer ink; matte finish photo paper and photo sleeves for about 3,000 prints; 3,000 6-inch candy canes; apple cider; and 6-ounce cups.

To volunteer or donate, contact Jordan at (714) 556-3036 or snoopyhouse@gmail.com. The city also has a web page with information that’s under the “Residents” tab and “Annual Events.”

Donation checks should be made payable to City of Costa Mesa Snoopy House and dropped off at or mailed to City Hall, Finance Department, 77 Fair Drive, Costa Mesa, CA 92626.
