Shoppers offered free parking

Huntington Beach is offering holiday shoppers two hours of free parking at the Main Promenade Parking Structure until Jan. 1.

The City Council passed the matter unanimously, 7-0, as part of the consent calendar at the Nov. 19 meeting. The city projects to lose $5,000 with the program, which began Nov. 23, but hopes it will generate more revenue for the city by encouraging more people to shop downtown this season.

People can get a free parking coupon in the 2012 Huntington Beach Downtown Holiday Coupon Book.
