Pets in need of help

Animal Crackers Pet Rescue is closing its doors Tuesday and still needs people to temporarily take in pets.

About five to six animals — including dogs, cats and possibly parrots — are in need of temporary homes, volunteer Johannah Falke said. The pet rescue center moves into its new space in Laguna Hills sometime in March.

Foundation seeks volunteers

Laguna Ocean Foundation’s Tidewater Docent is seeking volunteers for its program, which educates people about the local beaches. To qualify as a docent, volunteers must attend one formal training session and accompany a professional educator for on-the-job training at the tidepools.

Playground to be redone on Main Beach

The playground equipment at Main Beach is set to be replaced with custom lifeguard-tower-themed equipment, according to the city manager’s weekly updates. The playground will be closed during construction, which will start Jan. 22 and take two months to complete. The adjacent restrooms will remain open.
