Family safely escapes house fire

A family of eight was awoken by fire alarms early Tuesday when the wall in their two story Fountain Valley home caught on fire and spread to their attic, according to Fountain Valley Battalion Chief Rory Calhoon.

An emergency call came in at 1:47 a.m. with both the Fountain Valley and Huntington Beach fire departments responding to the two story home on 8000 block of Tern Avenue.

Calhoon said the damage was mostly contained to the attic and the majority of household items appeared to be undamaged.

He said the parents and six children were able to escape unharmed.
