Lorraine E. Sutherland

Lorraine E. Sutherland, a long time resident of Newport Beach, passed away on January 11, 2013 at the age of 94. Lorraine was born on December 16, 1918 in Alhambra, CA. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Richard Sutherland, and daughter Malinda Allen. She is survived by her son Stephen Sutherland, grandchildren Sarah Sutherland, Jeffrey and Greg Allen, and great grandchildren Ritchlie, Evan and Jake Allen.

In 1951 Lorraine opened her first women’s high-end clothing boutique in Alhambra, followed in 1965 with “Lorraine Sutherland at the Beach,” located in Newport Beach. She was an avid tennis player from the age of 5, playing 2 days a week until the age of 89 at the Balboa Bay Club Racket Club. She also enjoyed her weekly bridge club.

A celebration of Lorraine’s life will be held on April 6, 2013, 2pm to 4pm at De Anza Bayside Village, 300 East Coast Highway, Newport Beach (South Clubhouse). Please contact Stephen at 949-278-3052 for more information.
