Police arrest man who allegedly shot off rifle

A man who allegedly shot a rifle in the air was arrested Wednesday, according to a statement from Huntington Beach police.

Lawrence Ray Brankov, 65, of Huntington Beach, was booked in Huntington Beach City Jail on charges of willful negligent discharge of a firearm, authorities said.

Police received several calls about 9:30 p.m. from neighbors reporting a family disturbance in the 17300 block of Rob Roy Circle.

As officers were en route, neighbors called again reporting that Brankov exited the house with a rifle and fired a round in the air and returned inside before police arrived, authorities said.

Brankov continued to exit and enter the house for 30 minutes, sometimes with the rifle, as police tried talking to him, police said.

Police eventually approached the house as Brankov exited the house holding a beer bottle like it was a weapon, authorities said. A Taser was used on the suspect and he was taken into custody.
