The Daily Pilot, which is mainly distributed through paid print and digital subscriptions to the Los Angeles Times, will reduce distribution of free copies starting Wednesday.

The Pilot will no longer be available in standalone newspaper racks, but free copies will continue to be distributed to some city halls, senior centers and libraries.

The printed Pilot also will continue to be inserted into all copies of the Los Angeles Times sold at retail locations or delivered to homes Wednesdays through Sundays in Costa Mesa, Fountain Valley, Huntington Beach, Laguna Beach and Newport Beach.

Digital-only subscriptions to latimes.com will continue to include access to the Pilot online.

The Pilot’s reporting is increasingly funded by paid subscriptions. Free distribution was, in the past, made possible through advertising. This change was a business decision, as free distribution is no longer sustainable.

Digital-only subscriptions to The Times and Pilot start at $1 for the first four weeks. Seven-day-a-week home delivery starts at $4.99, while Sundays only are $1 a week.

Readers can subscribe at latimes.com/subscriptions or by calling (800) LA-TIMES.
